Fellowship opportunities for Iraqi Scholars to conduct research in Iraq

Proposals are invited from individual post-doctoral and advanced pre-doctoral researchers for fellowships to conduct research related to Iraq in any field of the humanities or social sciences. While the TAARII mission emphasizes support for the humanities and social sciences, proposals for related work in the natural sciences will also be considered. Requests should not exceed $4,000. The final amount awarded will depend upon the merit of the proposal and the budget justification.

Applications must be received by December 15, 2010, for Iraqi Fellowships and applications from Iraqis and collaborative teams are welcomed on a ROLLING basis.

  • A completed application form (in ENGLISH or in ARABIC, available from the TAARII office or this web site)
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A project narrative of no more than 4 double-spaced pages
  • Two letters of recommendation (mailed, faxed, e-mailed or delivered directly to TAARII)
  • Evidence of any official permissions required to carry out the project, from appropriate Iraqi authorities (e.g. State Board of Antiquities and Heritage)

Awards will be announced in April. Projects may begin immediately thereafter.

Eligibility is limited to Iraqi citizens, resident in Iraq , who are university faculty members, post-graduate researchers or full-time graduate students in recognized degree programs. Awards will be made on the basis of merit as determined by a review panel consisting of scholars from universities that are members of TAARII.

Support for this program comes from a grant from the U.S. State Department's Bureau for Educational and Cultural Affairs (State/ECA) through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC).
